What is Wildlife ?

Wildlife enthusiasts are awed by the discovery of a new species of monkeys (the highland mangabey), by the rediscovery of the ivory-billed woodpecker, by things that emerge from mystery and into the realm of awe. Nature is an endless treasury of wonder. From the Grand Canyon to Mount Everest, from whales to elephants to more subtle wonders, such as common green leaves that make food out of light—wildlife professionals are working to protect nature and all it encompasses.

Wildlife is thus a broad term that includes non-domesticated vertebrates, especially mammals, birds, and fish and is an important part of our nation’s ecosystem. Wildlife is valuable economically, socially and aesthetically. The mission of wildlife professionals is working with others, to conserve, protect and enhance wildlife and their habitats for the continuing benefit of humankind. In order to carry out this mission, the Forest and Wildlife department works and implements a number of laws that protect wildlife.
