A side hustle is any type of employment undertaken in addition to one’s full-time job. A side hustle is generally freelance or piecework in nature, providing a supplemental income. They are often things a person is passionate about, rather than a typical day job worked in order to make ends meet. As tough economic times hit, the need to explore side hustles is now a necessity.

If you want to pursue a side hustle, you need to be flexible and make adjustments. The better option is to start strategising on the options you can take to increase your resources and one of the easiest to hack is through your hobbies.

Your hobbies are already activities you enjoy doing, which means you’ll have an easier time embracing them as a side hustle.

Here are some tips to help you convert your hobbies into a side hustle:

1. Write down a clear goal

  • Most of us have multiple hobbies that come with different opportunities.
  • You might enjoy creating interesting desserts when you’re free and at the same time, you’re pretty good at playing an instrument.
  • Since it’s not always possible to juggle many things at once while putting in the same effort throughout, it’s always a good idea to decide on one thing.
  • Analyse the most lucrative one from your list and one that you can comfortably balance with your full-time job if you have one.

2. Work on your skills

  • When we enjoy our hobbies as a pass time, there isn’t any pressure.
  • You can decide to put in a lot of effort or just relax.
  • But if you want to turn it into a service or product, you have to focus on improving the quality.
  • You should start including your hobby in your weekly routine which can help you polish up what you need to.

3. Start networking

  • Being your own boss is not easy because you don’t really have a supervisor to help you out and if you don’t network, you might not make any progress.
  • You should get to know people who are in the same industry you want to get into and interact with those who you can share ideas with.
  • Take time to work on your networking skills because you are a direct image of what you have to offer.

4. Find a mentor

  • Having a mentor gives you a head start when you’re self-employed or just looking to make profits from a side hustle.
  • These are people who have a lot of wisdom that they have gained from experience and that is very crucial.
  • The easiest way to find mentors is through networking.
  • You can also use social media to your advantage as you continue to make progress.

5. Put in pure hard work

  • The truth is that many people aren’t cut out for side hustles.
  • You need to be prepared for everything that comes your way with it.
  • There will be times when you feel like giving up but you have to remind yourself why you started in the first place.
  • Yes, it’s a hobby and that is something you enjoy but hard work is still key.
