The pandemic and its consequences have been challenging for each one of us, but more so for the students. At a tender age, they are facing stressors that would easily take a toll on any adult.

Many negative thoughts go through their minds, causing anxiety and depression, which, in turn, lead to physical discomfort as well.

Although it is hard, staying calm and positive in tough times like these is imperative. The pandemic has made us pause and realise that maintaining good health, both physical and mental, is of the utmost importance.

Here are 4 tips to help you face the challenges of COVID-19 upfront and bring positive changes in your life:

1. Accept the Truth

When certain situations take a turn for the worse, we can slip into denial – using false assurances to tell ourselves that everything is fine. This is an immature response to what’s inevitable. When circumstances or people change for the worse, denial makes our pain even more acute.

Accepting the unfortunate turn of events as something that’s beyond our control takes the steam off the potentially stressful situation.

However simple it may sound, this is the most challenging of the four steps.

2. Be Optimistic

However bad the situation is, there’s always a silver lining. We need to look for the possible good hidden in an apparently tragic or overtly negative event.

W. Clement said, “There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude.” The big difference is whether it’s positive or negative.

3. Express Gratitude

Our life is a constant flow of blessings. If we can simply thank people for all that they do, we’ll remain positive rather than becoming cynical.

Cynicism drains our vital energy, while gratitude keeps our life simple, hearts pure, and mind peaceful.

We can focus on the many blessings that life has showered on us. “I had no shoes and I complained until I met a man with no feet,” is a wise maxim, especially in these times.

4. Show Appreciation

Kind words of encouragement and sincere appreciation of others emit positive energy everywhere, especially to those who come in close contact with us.

Appreciation creates a virtuous cycle of positivity. It makes people happy, positive and charged up. It also motivates them to spread positivity, thus expanding the positive environment.
