Event Report By: Ms Sanchita Dwivedi
During a special webinar on May 9, 2020, a four-member panel of ICS experts guided the participating students on staying agile, excited and happy in these turbulent times of Covid19 and the lockdown. The tips covered educational and career choices as well as mental, physical and spiritual well-being.
If you missed being a part of the ICS webinar, ‘Succeeding in the Post-Covid Career Scenario’, on May 9, 2020, here’s a recap of the expert advice given to students by our learned panelists — Dr Amrita Dass, Ms Kiran Kanjani, Dr Monika Dass and Ms Anuja Kumar.
1) Don’t give in to the fear psychosis: Dr Amrita Dass, Founder-Director, ICS, cautioned the students to not rush into making choices and compromising with their plans for higher studies. “The admission process has been delayed in various universities across the world. Stay informed and take your time to choose from among your top options,” she said. Dr Dass also advised students to build multiple expertise or ‘flexpertise’ to flourish in this new VUCA world.
2) Hybrid way of learning: Participants were asked to get used to hybrid learning — which uses both online and offline classes. “Nobody is going to take away the classrooms from us! Just be flexible in your approach. Adapting to change will be the key,” said Ms Anuja Kumar.
3) Studies abroad: Students also got valuable tips on how to evaluate offers from foreign universities and consider aspects such as change in visa rules or the necessity of additional documents (health checklists, etc). Sharing information about exams like SAT, ACT, GMAT and GRE, Ms Kirron Kanjani reassured the students that many universities had decided to begin their autumn session with online classes.
4) 7-point plan for overall well-being: Dr Monika Dass shared a complete well-being plan for the lockdown period. “Exercise and dance, get adequate sleep, reduce your screen time, have a structured day, connect with friends and those whom you haven’t been in touch with for a long time, practise mindfulness and look at building good relationships with family members, especially grandparents!” she advised.
What else our panelists said? Think of these times as a pause given to us by nature. Observe what’s happening. The more we observe the lockdown’s impact on our lives, societies and economies, the more we will be in a position to come up with innovative solutions for a pandemic-proof world!
